The cast of Coronation Street have reportedly vowed to get former co-star Ellie Leach into the Strictly Come Dancing final after she was 'unfairly' axed. The actress, 22, was confirmed for upcoming series of the BBC ballroom and Latin competition, earlier this month. Ellie played Faye Windass on the cobbles for over a decade until she was forced to leave when 'producers no longer saw a future for her character,' according to The Sun.
But now her loyal co-stars have come up with a plan to make sure she becomes a 'big star.' A source told the publication: 'Everyone has vowed to do all they can to get Ellie to the final of Strictly as a "f*** you" to bosses.' The added: 'It was made clear to her earlier this year they didn’t see a future for her character so she was left with no choice. At the time she said she had quit but it was always seen as an axe.
'It caused major upset behind the scenes because co-stars felt she was treated really badly. So they want her to become a big BBC star and stick two fingers up to the powers that be.' MailOnline has contacted both ITV and Ellie's rep for comment.
The actress first stepped foot onto the cobbles as a wide-eyed nine-year-old back in 2011, playing the adopted daughter of Eddie and Anna Windass. Faye's Weatherfield departure saw her break the heart of her fiancé Craig Tinker (Colson Smith), as she fled the Cobbles to be with her daughter Miley (Frankie-Jae Simmonds) and Miley's father Jackson Hodge (Joseph Evans). After her final scenes aired, Ellie paid tribute to her 'best friend' Colson, admitting he is one of the 'most special people' in her life.
She wrote: 'To my best friend, where to even begin, starting this job at 9 years old I didn't know what to expect, never in my wildest dreams did I think I would meet someone who would become one of the most special people in my life. 'You really are one in a million, I’ve never met anyone quite like you and I'm so blessed to call you my best mate, just don't go getting another fiancé too quickly okay!!!!!!
'Thank you for everything Colson Smith, everything we’ve been through, everything we’ve done together, I wouldn’t be who I am today if it wasn’t for you. I love you and I always will. Craye forever.' It was also reported that Ellie joined the cast of Strictly Come Dancing to heal her heartbreak following her split from 'cheating' ex-boyfriend Reagan Pettman. The actress split with her dancer beau back in May over 'cheating' allegations.
According to The Mirror, a source said: 'She learned that Reagan had gone behind her back, and they split up. It was very sad, but for her the trust was gone and there was no way back for them as a couple. 'Ellie is a really positive person and always has a smile on her face - but it’s been a difficult time. That’s why it was brilliant that she has landed Strictly, it has really given her something to smile about.'
