Cobra Kai star William Zabka has shared some footage from his intense martial arts training regime as he prepares to return for the final season. Cobra Kai season six will resume filming soon, according to star Xolo Maridueña. Sadly, season six will be the last for Cobra Kai, but Maridueña expressed his gratitude for the show and the relationships he made on set. He also hinted at the possibility of future reunions or spin-offs.
Cobra Kai star William Zabka is preparing to strike first when the hit show returns for its sixth and final season, with the actor taking to social media to share a video of his intense martial arts training.
Sharing a clip of himself in preparation for his return as Johnny Lawrence, the former antagonist-turned-hero of the Karate Kid sequel series, Zabka is clearly fully dedicated to bringing the beloved character to life one last time. Check out the footage of his training regime below.
In the clip, Zabka throws all manner of punches, kicks, and other impressive feats of martial art, skills which he will no doubt need in Cobra Kai season six, which is expected to see Lawrence and his one-time rival Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) come up against the villainous John Kreese (Martin Kove) once again.
This from Zabka comes following a recent update regarding the filming plans for the last season. Of course, Cobra Kai never dies, but the hit Netflix show was certainly left flat on the mat during the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strikes.
But now that the disputes are over, Cobra Kai season six will resume filming very soon! Previously, Xolo Maridueña gave fans a crane kick-worthy update on The Karate Kid-centric streaming series. When Maridueña was asked when shooting would resume, the actor said in an exclusive interview with Collider:
"Oh, snap! We’re going back to the dōjō."
"Yes, I do. I do have a date, and it's right around the corner. So, I'm excited to get back in the ‘gi. We already did the first episode right before the writers strike, so we're gonna hit the ground running, I know it."
Maridueña's costar Courtney Henggeler, who plays Amanda La Russo in the Netflix series, has also shared her own update on the show's return to filming. While speaking to Screen Rant, the actress provided a much more definite view on when cameras will get rolling again. When asked if she could reveal anything about what the final season holds, Henggeler said:
"I wish I knew. I just got the script for the - we're doing the last season, starting in January, and I just got the first script so I'll find out soon."
Just prior to the onset of the SAG-AFTRA strike, a video (below) with many of the cast members from Cobra Kai was posted online. Maridueña was among those in the clip, which also featured series’ regulars Ralph Macchio and William Zabka among many others. Shortly after, SAG-AFTRA put the kibosh on season six's production.

Sadly, the sixth season will also be the last for Cobra Kai. Xolo Maridueña was the very first of the new "Karate Kids" introduced during season one of Cobra Kai back when the series was still a YouTube production. Miguel (Maridueña) just happens to live in the same apartment complex as The Karate Kid-alum Johnny Lawrence (Zabka).
And after Johnny goes all Mr. Miyagi on some boys picking on Miguel, the two form perhaps the most powerful and heart-warming relationship at the center of the streaming series' success. And Maridueña is going to miss Cobra Kai. Maridueña said in the same interview with Collider:
“I feel so sad, bro. I started the show when I was 16. We're gonna finish, and I'm gonna be 23, and I'm like, ‘Wait, I still have so many years to keep hanging out with you guys!’ I had so much fun. Cobra Kai taught me so much of what I love and know about acting. On camera and off-camera, the people, the relationships that I made on that show, are ones that I'll remember for my whole life.
So, I'm forever grateful for it, and I know it's damn not gonna be the last time that we meet. I'm sure five years down the line we'll do, like, Cobra Kai Reunion or something [laughs]. I'm waiting for the spinoff. I need some spinoff. I would love an anime. I would love an anime spinoff.”
While Cobra Kai will never die, the streaming series will join the annals of TV history following season six. Meanwhile, the OG character of Daniel LaRusso will return, but on the big screen. Worlds will collide when Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan team up in a new Karate Kid project, which is an upcoming movie that will combine the mythology of both the franchise spawned by the 1984 film and Chan’s 2010 reimagining of the source material.
