The actor departed the show for "personal reasons" just a few weeks in
Amanda Abbington has admitted she was "distraught" to have called time on her Strictly Come Dancing stint earlier than planned.
The Sherlock actor had been impressing on the dance floor alongside Giovanni Pernice but after five weeks decided to leave.
In an emotional exit statement, Abbington cited "personal reasons" for her exit, and ever since, rumours have been rife of a possible feud with Pernice.
Abbington also faced boycott calls and floods of online trolling during her stint due to posts about drag queens she made on social media prior to the show.
Since her departure, Abbington has remained relatively tight-lipped about her Strictly departure - although hit headlines when it was confirmed she wouldn't be returning for the series grand finale.
On the social media site, one fan shared Abbington's exit statement as part of their recap of the 2023 series.
The fan wrote alongside: "I was truly distraught with her sudden departure from the show..." followed by a love heart emoji.
Abbington reposted the message on her own Instagram and echoed: "Thank you angel. So was I."
The insight into her thoughts about her Strictly departure comes just weeks after she was reportedly refused an invite to return for the finale.
Speculation had been rife that Abbington had turned down the chance to return but it's now been claimed she was never invited.
This was despite fellow withdrawal Nigel Harman being asked back to perform despite quitting the show with injury.
A source told the Sun: "There was a lot of talk on set about Amanda’s notable absence from the finale.
"It seemed unfair that Nigel was invited back and she wasn’t.
"I imagine she was upset by the snub as it would have been nice to have seen her return for one last dance, especially as she was so popular on the show and well-liked by viewers."
In the end, it was Ellie Leach who was crowned the 2023 Strictly champion alongside Vito Coppola.
The Coronation Street actor managed to see off Layton Williams and Bobby Brazier to bag the Glitterball Trophy.
