"Witness the Change: Furiosa Poster Offers a Captivating Look at Anya Taylor-Joy's Mad Max Role"

 Summary

  • Anya Taylor-Joy takes on the role of Furiosa in the upcoming Mad Max: Fury Road prequel, with a new poster showcasing her transformation into Charlize Theron's version of the character.
  • Theron's Furiosa was a highlight of Mad Max: Fury Road, meaning that Taylor-Joy has big shoes to fill.
  • While Taylor-Joy has proven herself a capable actor, she hasn't yet done a role that has showed off an intense physicality, which will be crucial for the character of Furiosa.

Anya Taylor-Joy takes center stage in a new Furiosa poster, which reveals more of her transformation into Charlize Theron's version of the Mad Max: Fury Road character. After Theron first brought Furiosa to life in George Miller's 2015 Mad Max movie, the character is now set to get her very own origin story.

The upcoming prequel, which is again directed by Miller, sees Taylor-Joy taking on the lead role, with a story that sees the hero facing off against Dementus (Chris Hemsworth), the film's villain, as she attempts to return home.

Now, as the Furiosa release date inches closer, a new poster shared by the official Mad Max Instagram account provides a new look at the film and its characters. Check out the poster below:The poster features two versions of Taylor-Joy's character, one seemingly from an earlier point in her life, and another that sees her fully formed and closer to Theron's Furiosa from Max Max: Fury Road. Accompanying the poster is a caption teasing that "She will find her way home - with a vengeance."

Will Anya Taylor-Joy's Furiosa Live Up To Theron's?

Although Mad Max: Fury Road features Tom Hardy's Max as the central character, it's really Furiosa's story, in many ways. Furiosa is the one who gets the more moving character arc, and Theron's performance gives the heroine depth. Although Hardy's Max is a more-than-worthy follow-up to Mel Gibson's take on the character, it's Furiosa that really emerged as the highlight of that film.

Miller recently confirmed that Furiosa takes place 15 years before the events of Mad Max: Fury Road, with the prequel's story explaining how she became the character that Theron portrays.

Taylor-Joy, then, has big shoes to fill. So far, Furiosa is shaping up to be a worthy return to the world of Mad Max. The story will seemingly cover a sizable portion of Furiosa's life, giving Taylor-Joy more room to explore the character. The actor has already proven herself a reliably-talented star, with her performances in The Menu, The Queen's Gambit, and The Northman showing off her range and charisma.

What remains to be seen, however, is whether Taylor-Joy can bring the same level of physicality to the role that Theron did. Furiosa, after all, is a capable warrior, and Theron, who has also starred in action movies Atomic Blonde and The Old Guard, was able to convincingly pull this off on-screen.

Many questions remain about Furiosa, but, if Taylor-Joy can put her own unique stamp on the character and capture the physicality, the prequel is already on track to be a worthy expansion of the Mad Max universe.
