"What Really Happened: Adam Thomas Discusses His Departure from BBC Strictly Come Dancing"

Adam Thomas has broken his silence on his emotional Strictly Come Dancing exit as he shared the reason he really waited nearly 24 hours to speak out. During Sunday night's results show the actor was seen having to perform for a second time after landing in the dreaded dance-off.

The Waterloo Road star faced the dreaded dance-off for a second week in a row and unfortunately, Adam lost his place in the BBC One dance contest after his elegant rumba to Dancing On My Own by Calum Scott with dance partner Luba Mushtuk during Saturday’s live show (November 4) landed him at joint bottom of the leaderboard with Irish TV presenter Angela Scanlon, as they both received 27 points.

After getting the red light treatment, Adam reprised his dance to Dancing On My Own by Callum Scott with his partner Luba while Angela Rippon and Kai Widdrongton, who also recieved the fewest public votes, performed their waltz to Fascination by Nat King Cole again.

But in the end the judges unanimously decided to save Angela and Kai meaning Adam and Luba left at the halfway mark of the competition, missing out on the famous Blackpool week.

Reflecting on his time on the show, Adam, 35, said: "Seven incredible weeks, what a journey it’s been. I honestly thought I was leaving in week two and the fact that I’ve got this far I’m so proud of myself, I’ve had an amazing time from start to finish.

I came here to learn how to dance and I’ve learned so much more about myself. The confidence and self-belief I now have in myself, it’s out of this world, I have to thank all these guys up here. What a bunch to be on this journey with, I’m just very, very lucky."

But after the results show aired, a ususally active Adam stayed off social media with only Russian dancer Luba addressing their exit online. However, the pair have since appeared on Strictly spin-off It Takes Two ans said of his exit: "I knew going up against Angela we'd be in trouble."

He added: "She's amazing, but if anyone was going to send us home I'm happy it was Angela, she's amazing. She is so elegant and I am really happy for her."

Adam also posted a video of himself and Luba to his Instagram page in which he revealed the real reason for his extended silence. The former Emmerdale star said: "It's been a while! Sorry I haven't been very active on here, I just needed a day to reflect on..." he then burst out laughing before explaining: "If I'm being truthful, I was hungover! But I'm ok now and we're about to do It Takes Two."

Adam and Luba then shared a joint 'thank you'. "Thank you so much for all your support. To everyone who picked up the phone and voted for us week on week, we would have never gotten to week seven if it wasn't for you guys and this one as well actually," Adam said while pointing at Luba.

"What a journey it's been," he shared as Luba said she'd had "the best time". Adam then continued: "But unfortunately, our Strictly Come Dancing journey is over but we had a blast, didn't we?" before Luba tried to hold back tears and as she struggled, Adam joked: "Not again," before saying: "Sorry guys, she's just very emotional."

He also typed in the caption of the video: "Thank you so much for all your messages and all the love shared!!! We couldn’t have got as far, as we did, with out you!!! But that is it!! Hanging my dancing shoes up for a little while now, going to put my feet up and watch the show from home with the family!! But will look back on this experience with a huge smile on my face. Love from me and this special one @lubamushtuk."
