CBS reveals the first Young Sheldon season 7 clip and it shows Missy's (Raegan Revord) shocking new role after her rebellious arc in season 6.
SUMMARY
- Missy's expanded role in Young Sheldon season 7 allows her to showcase her responsible and capable side, fixing her character's underutilization.
- Even though there isn't enough time to fully explore Missy's teenage years, her prominence in the latest clip suggests that the writers are planning to better utilize her in the remaining episodes.
- Including Missy in the upcoming Young Sheldon spinoff about Georgie and Missy would be a great way for CBS to make up for her underutilization and provide more creative room to craft her story.
Young Sheldon season 7's first promotional clip reveals Missy's new role. Sheldon may be its headlining character, but The Big Bang Theory prequel has long outgrown its premise and is now a proper family comedy. This means that there's increased interest in all of the Cooper family members, including George and Mary's only daughter.
Missy was sidelined for most of Young Sheldon, and her rebellious storyline in season 5 was in direct response to that. Coming into the new year, however, she is given a brand-new role that she may actually be able to thrive in.
The official Young Sheldon YouTube account has shared the first full clip from Young Sheldon season 7, showing Missy taking over Mary's duties while she's away. Watch the video below:
In the clip, Missy not only cooks the dinner for the remainder of the Cooper clan in Medford, but she also leads the family in prayer — something that his father is surprised by. The whole clan is cramped at George's house because Meemaw's house was destroyed in the Young Sheldon season 6 finale.
How Missy’s New Young Sheldon Season 7 Role Fixes Her Character
Time and again, Missy has proven that she is the best Cooper family member. While she isn't a genius like Sheldon or as entrepreneurial as Georgie, she has street smarts and charisma, making her a better overall character.
Sadly, Young Sheldon fails to capitalize on her appeal by relegating her to a supporting character throughout its run. Giving her an expanded role in season 7 allows her to showcase just how responsible and capable she truly is, which is the only way the creative team can fix her character in time for the prequel's end.
Considering the limited time that Young Sheldon has left, it won't be able to fully explore Missy's teenage years. Her stereotypical experiences in high school could have been a juxtaposition to Sheldon's arc as a 13-year-old in college.
At the very least, however, Missy's prominence in the aforementioned season 7 clip indicates that the writers are planning to better utilize her in the remaining episodes of The Big Bang Theory prequel. Perhaps, it can even give her a more lighthearted plot before inevitably changing the course of her life with the impending death of George in Young Sheldon.
Another way for CBS to fully make up for its underutilization of Missy is to include her in the upcoming Young Sheldon spinoff about Georgie and Missy. Per The Big Bang Theory canon, Georgie remained connected to Missy after George's death, and the next offshoot can simply stick to that.
In any case, there's really no drawback to including Missy in the project, as not only is Revord great in Young Sheldon, but not much about her teenage years was revealed in the nerd-centric sitcom, giving CBS more creative room to craft her story.
