"What period drama offers entertainment while we wait for The Gilded Age Season 3?"

 Summary

  • Fans of The Gilded Age have a long wait for season 3, but they can watch Belgravia: The Next Chapter in the meantime.
  • Belgravia: The Next Chapter is the perfect replacement for The Gilded Age, with similar drama and entertainment.
  • Both shows have similar timelines, with Belgravia set in the 1870s and The Gilded Age in the 1880s.

Sadly, it might be a long time before The Gilded Age season 3 graces our screens. However, while waiting for new episodes, fans can fill the time by watching a different show that serves as the perfect replacement for The Gilded Age.

The HBO historical drama television series is set in New York City during the 1880s in, as the title suggests, the Gilded Age. It premiered in January 2022 and immediately received positive reviews from critics and viewers, earning it a season 2 renewal. The show's success carried over to the second season, resulting in HBO ordering a third one.

Of course, news about more episodes is exciting, but season 3's premiere date is unknown. Since the second season aired a little under two years after the first (in October 2023), it might be a while before the HBO show returns.

Given the hiatus between the first two installments, many predict that The Gilded Age season 3 likely won't be ready until the summer of 2025, meaning that fans have a bit of a wait for the historical drama's highly anticipated return. However, one new show that premiered in January 2024 could fill the Gilded Age-shaped hole in fans' hearts.

MGM+'s Belgravia: The Next Chapter Is Perfect For Fans Of The Gilded Age & Downton Abbey

The series premiere of Belgravia: The Next Chapter aired on January 14, 2024, on MGM+. Based on the first episode, the show is seemingly the perfect replacement for The Gilded Age while fans await season 3.

Julian Fellowes, the creator of The Gilded Age and Downton Abbey, also created the MGM+ Victorian period drama series' predecessor, Belgravia. Consequentially, it makes sense why all these shows feel similar to one another (even though the 2024 series was created by Helen Edmundson, it is still a continuation of Fellowes' work).

Belgravia: The Next Chapter serves as a sequel to the original show, which was a limited project that aired in 2020. The new series centers around the scandals of the Trenchard family, who were also the focus of Belgravia. It contains all the drama, gossip, and entertainment that encompasses The Gilded Age, but with different characters in a separate setting (Great Britain).

Julian Fellowes' The Gilded Age is full of juicy period scandals and historical events, but there's even more that could be included in season 3.

Belgravia: The Next Chapter's Timeline Perfectly Parallels The Gilded Age's Timeline

Another characteristic that Belgravia: The Next Chapter has in common with The Gilded Age is its timeline. Both works take place around the same time — the MGM+ series is set in the 1870s, while the events of the HBO show transpire in the 1880s, so they are perfect parallels to one another. Belgravia: The Next Chapter depicts what happened in Great Britain during this period, while The Gilded Age focuses on the United States' affairs in the late 1800s.
