Loki season 2's release is right around the corner, so unanswered questions from the first season may finally be answered in the Phase 5 series.

SUMMARY

  •  Loki season 2 will likely answer pressing questions left unanswered at the end of season 1, such as where Loki has ended up and what Sylvie's Nexus Event was.
  •  Miss Minutes' existence and origin may finally be explored in Loki season 2 as Loki sets out to find her.
  •  The quest of Ravonna Renslayer to find free will and Sylvie's new purpose after killing He Who Remains will be revealed in Loki season 2.

The upcoming release of Loki season 2 can finally answer several questions that were left unanswered at the end of Loki season 1 in the MCU Phase 4. It's been over two years since Marvel Studios premiered Loki season 1 on Disney+, focusing on the version of Tom Hiddleston's God of Mischief who escaped from the Avengers' clutches during the Time Heist in Avengers: Endgame. Loki introduced the concept of the multiverse in the MCU, which has since been explored in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. This will be developed more in Phase 5's Loki season 2.

Marvel Studios' development of Loki season 2 was confirmed at the end of the first season's finale. Since then, most of the principal cast has been confirmed for Loki season 2. Trailers have revealed that the God of Mischief will be embarking on a quest to investigate a new variant of Kang the Conqueror, Victor Timely, while dealing with the fallout of the Sacred Timeline breaking open after He Who Remains' death. Loki season 1's cliffhanger ending left many questions unanswered, and many of them can finally be resolved when Loki season 2 premieres on October 5, 2023.

Where Is Loki At The End Of Season 1?

Loki season 1's finale saw Loki and Sylvie come face-to-face with He Who Remains, the man behind the creation of the Time Variance Authority (TVA). In a bid to complete her revenge mission, Sylvie thrusts Loki back into the TVA and kills He Who Remains, though Loki doesn't end up in the version of the TVA that he knows. Mobius and Hunter B-15 have no memory of Loki, and instead of statues of the fictitious Time Keepers overseeing the TVA, a statue of Kang the Conqueror keeps a watchful eye. Loki season 2 is expected to pick up immediately after this ending, hopefully answering exactly where Loki has ended up.

What Was Sylvie’s Nexus Event?

Loki season 1 introduced audiences to several variants of the God of Mischief, including Sophia Di Martino's Sylvie, who was revealed to have been taken by the TVA as a child after she caused a Nexus Event and jeopardized the Sacred Timeline. Throughout her journey, Sylvie's exact Nexus Event is never revealed, leaving the answer up to speculation. Sylvie is returning in Loki season 2, though her motivation in the upcoming series is unclear after she completed her mission to kill He Who Remains. Her return in the MCU's Phase 5 could finally come with an answer as to what her original Nexus Event actually was.

What Is Miss Minutes?

Tara Strong voiced Miss Minutes in Loki season 1, the anthropomorphic clock mascot of the TVA who works directly for He Who Remains while giving as much information to the TVA agents and Loki as He Who Remains deems suitable. Loki questions the nature of Miss Minutes' existence in Loki season 1, wondering whether she's a recording or is an actual being, but this question is never answered. Loki season 2's synopsis suggests that Miss Minutes is curiously missing, so it seems Loki will set out to find her, which could potentially lead to questions about her existence being answered and her origin possibly being explored.

Where Has Ravonna Renslayer Gone On Her Hunt For Free Will?

Gugu Mbatha-Raw's Judge Renslayer knew more about the TVA's true purpose than most but was still clueless as to the existence of He Who Remains. At the end of Loki season 1, Renslayer left the TVA on a quest to find free will, which will be explored in Loki season 2, with Renslayer featuring prominently in trailers for the upcoming series. Renslayer is adapted from Marvel Comics' Ravonna Renslayer, who enters into a tumultuous romance with Kang the Conqueror in a variety of timelines and guises, so this could be a fun storyline to investigate in Loki season 2, and the exact nature of Renslayer's quest will finally be revealed.

What Did Sylvie Do After Killing He Who Remains?

Throughout Loki season 1, Sylvie's only goal was to reach the Time Keepers in order to kill them to exact revenge. When she realized they weren't real, this attention turned to He Who Remains, whom she eventually dispatched of. In the moments after He Who Remains' death, Sylvie finally relaxes, but she may now be without purpose as her lifelong mission is complete. Who Sylvie is now and what she wants is a mystery that Loki season 2 can explain. Trailers have shown her working in a McDonald's in Loki season 2, perhaps trying to live a normal life after spending so long on the run.

What Did Killing He Who Remains Actually Do To The Sacred Timeline?

The TVA's entire goal in Loki season 1 was to ensure the stability of the Sacred Timeline, ensuring that no branching timelines would lead to the creation of a variant of Kang the Conqueror. After He Who Remains' death in the season finale, however, the Sacred Timeline began to splinter, branching into thousands of separated timelines that allowed the multiverse to be explored in subsequent MCU projects. He Who Remains' dominion over the Sacred Timeline wasn't actually properly explained in Loki season 1, so season 2 can properly explain how he controlled the Sacred Timeline and why his death caused it to erupt into many new timelines.

Who Is The Fourth Time Keeper?

Upon making their way to the Citadel at the End of Time in Loki season 1's finale, Loki and Sylvie explore the mysterious building before meeting He Who Remains. Inside, they find four statues depicting the Time Keepers that were said to oversee the Sacred Timeline and the TVA, though one of these statues had been destroyed. Only three Time Keepers appeared in the TVA, so the identity of the fourth is unknown, but there have been suggestions that these statues could mirror the leaders of the Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania's Council of Kangs: Immortus, Rama-Tut, and the Scarlet Centurion, with the fourth being the exiled Kang the Conqueror.

What Lives Did The TVA Workers Live Prior To The TVA?

Although the workers of the TVA were initially thought to have been created by the Time Keepers specifically to work for the organization, it was later revealed that they were all actually variants who had been taken from their timelines. This means that every single worker in the TVA had a life before becoming employed by He Who Remains, and these previous lives would be great to explore in Loki season 2. Glimpses of Ravonna Renslayer and Hunter C-20's human lives were seen in Loki season 1, but season 2 can delve deeper into these stories and show the humans who were stolen to work for the TVA.

Is He Who Remains Actually Dead?

Despite it seeming clear, there are questions whether He Who Remains is actually dead for good or now. He Who Remains may have been the only variant of Kang the Conqueror in existence at the time of Loki season 1, but the Sacred Timeline has now been burst wide open, allowing an infinite number of Kang variants to come into existence. This means that a version of He Who Remains could still appear in Loki season 2, despite him apparently dying at the end of season 1, but this will be properly explained when season 2 premieres in the MCU Phase 5.

Will The Council Of Kangs Appear In Loki Season 2?

After the multiverse was created at the end of Loki season 1, variants of Kang the Conqueror began to make themselves known in the MCU, specifically in Phase 5's Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Not only did the Conqueror himself make his first appearance, but Quantumania's mid-credits scene introduced the Council of Kangs to the MCU, a group of multiversal Kang variants who have control over the multiverse. It's possible members of the Council of Kangs could appear in Loki season 2, particularly since a new variant, Victor Timely, will be introduced.
