Vin Diesel shares a touching new piece of Fast X fan art celebrating Paul Walker’s lasting impact on the long-running Fast & Furious franchise.
Paul Walker's lasting impact on the Fast & Furious franchise is celebrated in a new piece of Fast X fan art, which is even making Vin Diesel emotional. The world of Fast & Furious first got its start back in 2001, and the long-running franchise is now gearing up for its tenth and penultimate entry.
Walker tragically passed away during the filming of Furious 7, but his character, Brian O'Conner, remains alive and well in the world of the films and is confirmed to appear via flashbacks in Fast X.
Ahead of the Fast X release date next month, Diesel has now taken to Instagram to share a new piece of Fast & Furious fan art celebrating Walker's character over the years.
The art features Brian's iconic silver and blue Skyline GT-R, which he drove in 2003's 2 Fast 2 Furious. The art also makes clear that, although Walker may be gone, he remains an important part of the franchise.
Paul Walker's Legacy Lives On In Fast X
After Walker died in 2013, about half of his scenes in Furious 7 had to be completed using body doubles and visual effects. The film's ending serves as a beautiful tribute to Walker and all that he brought to the franchise and Brian hasn't featured in any of the franchise films since, beyond references in dialogue and a cameo from his blue Skyline GT-R at the end of F9:
The Fast Saga. Fast X is expected to change that, however, due to the film's deep connection to Fast Five.
The central premise of Fast X is that Dante (Jason Momoa) is attempting to get revenge on Dom and his crew following his father's death at their hands in Fast Five. The Fast X trailer featured some flashbacks to Dom and Brian's Rio de Janeiro heist in Fast Fave and director Louis Leterrier has confirmed that the movie will jump back and forth between the past and the present.
While Fast X will bring Walker back in the form of flashbacks, Diesel has hinted that Fast & Furious 11, which is expected to serve as the final film in the franchise, will feature a farewell to Walker and Brian.
It's unclear what this means exactly, but it seems likely that the film will recreate Walker using CGI for one last scene. It remains to be seen just how much Walker will appear in Fast X, but the film will evidently set the stage for a grander farewell to come.
