Will Sheldon & Mary Come Home In The Young Sheldon Season 7 Premiere

It makes sense for Sheldon and Mary to come home, considering that Young Sheldon is set to end with a shortened season 7. It cannot afford to keep the family separated if they want to properly set up a satisfying finale.

Sheldon is already leaving Texas at the end of the year, following his graduation at East Texas Tech, and moving to Pasadena, California to begin his post-grad studies at Caltech. It would be ideal to see more of him interacting with his family, especially since there won't be much of that in his future.

That being said, since Young Sheldon exists in the same reality as The Big Bang Theory, and the prequel must adhere to the established canon to the best of its ability. Per the nerd-centric sitcom, Sheldon was left in Germany to finish his educational stint while Mary was forced to come home and help the family rebuild after the tornado.

The final decision still rests on the writers and how they want to tackle the remaining episodes of Young Sheldon, but following this storyline means that there needs to be a significant time jump to bring Sheldon back to Texas.

Ultimately, Young Sheldon should prioritize its own storytelling. The prequel has created too many plot inconsistencies to start sticking to The Big Bang Theory canon right now. Sheldon needs to come home and spend as much time as the rest of the Coopers. This is particularly important if the spinoff moves forward with George's impending death.
