"Did The Last of Us Season 2 Cast Photo Drop a Hint? Fans Speculate Foreshadowing in First Look!"

A new photo of The Last of Us' cast has fans worrying over one of the show's main protagonists.

Most fans of HBO's The Last of Us were equally excited and terrified when news of Abby's confirmed casting dropped. Audiences oblivious to the video game are spared the heartache of knowing what's likely to happen in the adaptation, but others are still holding onto hope the show would alter one of its main protagonist's story arc.

Fans still can't help but be concerned when the first cast photo for Season 2 was shared on Instagram, which they fear is confirmation the show will faithfully adapt The Last of Us Part II video game.

The Last of Us season 1's ending will directly influence the rest for the series and will have major implications on season 2 and the show's future.

In a post by Zarak by Afghan Kitchen on Instagram, the restaurant thanked the cast and heads of the show for choosing their place for a night out.

Out of all the persons present in the attached photo, fans immediately noted the actors cast to adapt key characters from The Last of Us Part II: Bella Ramsey (Ellie Williams) was joined by Young Mazino (Jesse) and Isabella Merced (Dina), whose casting at the very least confirms they will have a pivotal part in furthering Ellie's story arc.

Jesse and Dina are members of the same Jackson community where Joel first reunited with Tommy (played by Gabriel Luna). Without revealing too much of the plot, these new characters will likely follow the video game's story beats, serving as accomplices in Ellie's revenge.

Fans Weigh in on Joel's Season 2 Arc

One user's comment hinted at the inevitable with a morbid pun: "Joel went golfing huh?" Another confirmed the foreshadowing, saying, "This photo is both heartwarming and terrifying because I know what's coming." While the photo hardly suggests any spoiler for the show, one user can't help but point out that Pedro Pascal was missing in the shot.

Pascal has previously addressed these concerns, though he remained ambivalent about Joel's Season 2 arc. "I think that they're always going to find ways to build on the incredible source material that they have, and surprise us with how they can use that material in a different format like a television show," he said at the time.

Naughty Dog boss Neil Druckmann gives an update on Season 2 of The Last of Us and a potential third video game.

The Last of Us so far has two video game installments with uniquely standalone stories. The first game depicted the aftermath of the Cordyceps outbreak, also a reluctant Joel escorting Ellie across a landscape ravaged by zombies and humans. That installment endeared players to both characters who developed an almost father-daughter bond.

The sequel escalated the events of the first game with plot turns that divided the fan base, to say the least. Showrunner Craig Mazin says the adaptation's plot could extend beyond the video games if the audiences demand it. "There's more story, so this show will not end with Season 2 unless people don't watch it and we'll get canceled," he explained.
