"The Wait is Over: Blue Bloods Welcomes Back Fan Favorite for Epic Final Season!"

It’s the CBS move you never saw coming. Blue Bloods alum Dylan Walsh is returning for the final season — but not of the show you expect.

Walsh, who has played Mayor Peter Chase on Blue Bloods since 2019, has joined the cast of CBS and Paramount Plus’ SEAL Team for its seventh and final season.

The Rookie Cast

SEAL Team is a military drama following the Bravo Team, a sub-unit of the United States Naval Special Warfare Development Group (DEVGRU), the most elite unit of Navy SEALs.

Walsh will play Captain Walch, a recently appointed Commanding Officer of DEVGRU, whose by-the-book and politically-minded leadership clouds his ambitions as he decides what to do with the Bravo Team. SEAL Team premiered on CBS in 2017. It moved to Paramount Plus for its fifth season in 2021.

Along with Walsh, SEAL Team Season 7 will also introduce new cast member Beau Knapp as Drew Franklin, a Chief Petty Officer with a dark history whose role in with the Bravo Team is a sign off their “problem-child status” with DEVGRU, according to Deadline.

Franklin is also described by Deadline as a “smooth talker who exploits every angle to his advantage” and someone who “revels in the mystery and rumors that surround him.”

CBS announced that SEAL Team was ending agter Season 7 in a statement in November 2023. “When we first heard the pitch for SEAL Team almost seven years ago, I was struck by the producers’ genuine passion to tell authentic stories that honored and celebrated the sacrifice of veterans and all those who serve our country,” CBS Studios president David Stapf told The Hollywood Reporter at the time.

“Since that first meeting, they have not wavered in that mission. The characters, storylines and cast performances have continued to be both nuanced and powerful. Thank you to David, Spencer, Chris, Mark and the entire cast and crew for their partnership, creative vision, and dedication. We are looking forward to an exciting and satisfying seventh and final season.”

Jeff Grossman, executive vp content and business operations at Paramount Streaming, added in his own statement: “SEAL Team has built an incredible legacy that celebrates and honors the brave men and women who serve in the armed forces.

Our thanks to David Boreanaz and the entire cast and crew for bringing this phenomenal and thought-provoking series to life. We look forward to celebrating their work and giving Team Bravo fans a fantastic final season.”

David David Boreanaz — who plays Master Chief Special Warfare Operator Jason Hayes, also known as Bravo 1/1B, and also executive produces SEAL Team — issued his own emotional statement in the wake of the series’ cancellation. “For six seasons I have been fortunate and blessed to be a part of an outstanding cast and crew,” he said.

“Every day spent was a note of thanks to our men and women in the military and Special Ops. I thank our fans, and I’m proud we were able to make this show to shine light in the darkness toward so many suffering today. I look forward to season seven and the opportunity to end this series with love and gratitude.”

Blue Bloods, for its part, is also ending. CBS announced that Season 14 would be the series’ last in November 2023. “For the past 13 years it has been an honor and a privilege to work on a show that not only celebrates the men and women who protect and serve in New York City, but also displayed the importance of family,” Tom Selleck, who plays Commissioner Frank Reagan, said in a statement at the time.

“Working alongside these incredible actors, writers, producers, directors and crew has been a dream come true and I’m grateful to have been a part of this extraordinary group for over 275 episodes. Thank you to CBS Studios and CBS Network for their steadfast support and we offer heartfelt gratitude to the fans who gathered with us for dinner every Friday night.”
