"The Untold Story: Sister Wives Sheds Light on the 'Slap in the Face' Wedding Drama and Kody's 'Favoritism'"

In PEOPLE's exclusive sneak peek, Kody Brown says he felt undermined by his first three wives when he wed Robyn and calls Christine "jealous" because he "didn't want to be married" to her even then

Christine, Robyn, Janelle and Meri Brown are revisiting the famed wedding dress saga and how it changed their plural marriage forever.

In PEOPLE's exclusive clip of Sunday’s Sister Wives Look Back: How It Started special, the ladies reflect on a pivotal moment in their marriage to Kody Brown. The TLC stars watch an old clip of Kody gushing about how he was able to choose Robyn’s dress ahead of their wedding — an admission that did not sit well with his other wives.

“Robyn and I went and looked at dresses and she picked one out and I was like, 'Holy cow.' It's like I'd seen it in my dreams, you know?” he says in a flashback confessional while Christine rolls her eyes.

She points out that Kody didn’t “care at all” what kind of dress she wore at their wedding and the other wives agree that sharing that piece of information was “not cool” and a “slap in the face.”

In response, Janelle explains: "I wasn't even really emotional involved with any of the dresses, but it's just weird. And then all of a sudden, it was this thing we had all done together — like the women — and then here's Kody saying, 'Oh well, it wasn't really for real.' It took me back. It was really quite funny 'cause [Kody was] so excited."

Christine then chimes in and notes, "It wasn't funny, you looked like an idiot."

“It wasn't funny to me either. It was actually something that I had to ask him, you know, not to share with anybody for the sake of sort of protecting both experiences,” Robyn adds. “I didn't feel it was necessary for you guys to know that.”

Reacting to the clip in present day, Kody admits that it was a “really hard one” to watch back. Despite the years that have since followed, the Brown family patriarch says it hits a “place” where “I don't even think I’ve forgiven.”

“Meri made her dress. Janelle didn't wear a wedding dress for our wedding. And Christine was just throwing together a wedding and I was living a long way away from her with a family,” Kody explains. “My involvement in seeing a dress that was going to work for Robyn incited some kind of jealousy in Christine that was irrational.”

Whether or not jealousy was in play, Christine admits it was “a hard day” and notes it was “the day when I realized, 'Ah, he is way more in love with Robyn then he was with me when we got married.'"

Robyn, on the other hand, denies she and Kody had committed any wrongdoing. While Kody may have given his “input" on the dress, she was the one who ultimately decided what to wear on their big day.

Kody claims he “knew what I wanted her to wear from the very beginning” and doesn’t understand why his wives were dress shopping without him when he “wanted to be involved.” Though he acknowledges that Christine was “upset,” Kody explains that “the problem with the whole experience that I had with Christine was I didn't really want to be married to her.”

“It was a d— move on Kody’s part,” Janelle chimes in before adding, “But maybe that was the beginning of some shows of favoritism. I have no idea.” Sister Wives Stars Revisit the 'Slap in the Face' Wedding Drama That Exposed Kody's 'Favoritism' Toward Robyn

Within a span of 14 months, three of the Sister Wives patriarch's marriages imploded. Christine was the first to leave in November 2021. A year later in December 2022, it was revealed that he had separated from Janelle. A month after that, the end of his union with Meri was confirmed in January after the pair's relationship had been platonic and distant for years.
