Below Deck has been the host of many interesting charter guests, but Dr. Francis Martinis and his wife, Jessica Martinis, are potentially the most controversial. A spin-off of the popular Below Deck, Below Deck Med has been taking charter guests out in the Mediterranean waters for seasons under the watchful eye of Captain Sandy Yawn.
With Captain Sandy at the helm, the different chefs and crew members of her various vessels have sailed through the luxurious waters of the Mediterranean. While some are more memorable than others, there have been guests who have tested the crew’s patience and abilities, even on Below Deck Mediterranean season 8.
With the majority of the crew members changing from season to season on Below Deck Med, there are several personalities that viewers have gotten to know throughout the years. Along with Captain Sandy, the crews of the superyachts she captains get the opportunity to document their lives aboard the ships they work on. As crew members of such a luxurious yacht, the Below Deck Med crew has to be ready for anything the charter guests throw at them, but there are scandals even the Below Deck team isn’t prepared to handle.
Although he didn’t appear to be quite so devious when he was a charter guest on Below Deck Mediterranean, Francis and his wife Jessica were actually running a scheme behind the crew’s back. Francis, a doctor from Long Island, New York, and his wife were indicted for a prescription pill ploy wherein they impersonated Below Deck Med cast members at pharmacies in order to obtain more prescription painkillers.
Their scheme involved Francis writing prescriptions for various cast members, which Jessica would then fill in person at a pharmacy. While they were successful for some time, the couple has been being investigated since early 2023, and has finally been arrested.
Francis and Jessica have appeared on more than jut Below Deck Mediterranean in the past, their time on the franchise has spanned across to another series. Francis and Jessica also appeared on Below Deck Sailing Yacht meeting the crew and Captain Jason Chambers.
With the guests having spanned over multiple shows, it’s interesting to know that they only found themselves impersonating cast members from Below Deck Med. It appears the doctor and his wife were more familiar with the Mediterranean cast, if they were more comfortable impersonating them.
After being investigated for nearly a year, many are glad to know that Francis and Jessica are finally being held responsible for their actions. While it’s unclear what exactly the charges against them are, the pair are being made to pay for what they’ve done with the Below Deck casts identities. Though Francis and Jessica may have felt they were doing something right, it’s clear that their actions needed to have some severe legal repercussions.
