"First Look: Austin Butler's Epic Green Arrow Portrayal in James Gunn's DC Universe Art!"

New DC Universe fan art imagines Austin Butler as Oliver Queen, a.k.a. the Green Arrow, in James Gunn's upcoming franchise under DC Studios.

SUMMARY

  •  Green Arrow could potentially make an appearance in James Gunn's DC Universe, as shown in a new fan art that modernizes the hero's iconic costume.
  •  Despite Green Arrow's popularity in DC TV shows, he has yet to make his cinematic debut in the DCEU, making fans hopeful for his inclusion in future projects.
  •  There is a possibility that Green Arrow will be introduced in the second half of Chapter 1 of the DC Universe's plans, or referenced in other movies and TV shows before officially appearing on screen.

Austin Butler suits up as Green Arrow for James Gunn's DC Universe through new fan art, showing what the actor could look like as the iconic Emerald Archer. The DCEU timeline is coming to an end with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, as 2023 brings the franchise to a conclusion after a full decade. However, as one continuity is over, another one is rising through the DC Universe, with various movies and TV shows in the works.

While multiple DC Universe characters have already been cast, one that many have wondered about is Green Arrow, given the hero's reputation as the cornerstone of the Arrowverse franchise sets a high bar for a possible DCU appearance, and leaves it unclear as to whether the franchise will indeed include him in the roster, or whether they'll avoid it for the time being.

Shreyak Duggirala shared new artwork of what the DCU Oliver Queen could look like, showing Austin Butler donning the iconic Green Arrow costume.

For his version of the Green Arrow suit, Shreyak Duggirala shared how they took the 1970s look and modernized it for a potential live-action adaptation in Gunn's DC Universe. To this point, DC Studios have not announced any Green Arrow plans for the time being, neither for the big or small screen.

Will Green Arrow Join James Gunn's DC Universe?

While Green Arrow has had his presence in on-screen media, it has only been through live-action DC TV shows, including Smallville and Arrow, and numerous animated appearances. The closest Green Arrow got to his shot at the big screen treatment was when David S.

Goyer was developing a script based on the DC archer in the late 2000s. The DC Universe could finally be the time to get Green Arrow into the movies, both for his own film, and as a supporting player in other DC projects.

Someone like Green Arrow - who is both able to serve as comic relief, but also be one of the grittier superheroes when the need arises - would fit into the mixture of projects that Gunn has in the works.

While Oliver may not have been one of the characters who was announced to be part of the plans in January, it is always possible that he will be saved for the second half of Chapter 1, "Gods and Monsters." Oliver may also be referenced through other DC Universe movies and TV shows to establish that he is at least out there prior to him finally showing up on screen.

DC TV proved that there is an audience for Green Arrow outside the comic book crowd, which is why it is somewhat shocking that he hasn't gotten his cinematic debut yet.

Hopefully, this will be something Gunn and Peter Safran rectify, as Green Arrow wasn't even given a chance to appear in the DCEU. For now, the world will have to wait and see if Green Arrow is on his way to the DC Universe, and who ends up playing him if so.
