90210 is prominently featured in Young Sheldon season 6, episode 16, as it secretly hints at Missy's tragic future in The Big Bang Theory prequel.
Young sheldon missy 90210
Young Sheldon season 6's reference to 90210 is a secret tease for Missy's tragic future in the show. After being ignored and relegated as a supporting character for most of the ongoing year, The Big Bang Theory prequel finally gave Sheldon's twin sister her due with her plot.
Feeling overlooked, Missy decided that running away from home was the best way to hold her parents accountable for their mistakes, but her plan immediately backfired after she was caught and brought back home as Mary and George punished her for her daring joyride. Being grounded meant she was prohibited from watching TV — including her favorite show, 90210.
The narrative gives Young Sheldon the opportunity to highlight Missy and Sheldon's bond as siblings. When the twins still shared a room, it was easier to develop their relationship.
Their current set-up, including Sheldon's college stint, makes this trickier. So, while Mandy and Georgie's big Young Sheldon cliffhanger is the biggest takeaway from "A German Folk Song and an Actual Adult," CBS still finding a way to highlight Sheldon and Missy's bond is great. More impressively, it can also tease what lies ahead for the only Cooper daughter.
90210’s Dylan Story Spoils Missy’s Young Sheldon Future
In Young Sheldon season 6, episode 16, Missy deals with the fallout from her actions. Both Mary and George decided to ground her, which means she isn't allowed to do certain enjoyable things even at home — like watching her favorite TV show.
Despite her protests and desperate explanation, her parents maintain that she isn't allowed to catch the latest episode of the series and even ask Sheldon to ensure that his twin follows them. Despite being a stickler for rules, Sheldon does possibly one of the sweetest things he has ever done for Missy. He watches the show on his own and relays its events to her.
That being said, aside from making for a rather excellent bonding moment for the pair, the 90210 story foreshadows Missy's future. Catching Sheldon re-watching the teen-oriented series, George makes a comment about how Luke Perry looks way too old to play a high schooler, Dylan.
His genius son then explains that the character is having trouble at school after his father unexpectedly dies. Neither of them knows the tragedy coming the family's way, but this is precisely what happens to Missy. As Sheldon reveals in The Big Bang Theory, his sister spent six years in high school instead of just four after George's death.
While Missy isn't as intellectually capable as Sheldon, she is far from being stupid. She is sensible, mature, and even responsible. Given these, it's difficult to imagine that she would have to extend two full years just to finish high school — unless there's an external factor that leads to that.
As established in Young Sheldon season 6, Missy tends to do dumb things when dealing with strong emotions. Feeling left out and ignored by her parents, she decided to run away from home even though her plan didn't make sense. George dying could impact her in bigger ways, ultimately derailing her whole life.
When George Dies In Young Sheldon
Thanks to The Big Bang Theory's established canon, the Cooper patriarch already has a pre-determined death long before Lance Barber debuted in the prequel. CBS has been trying to delay this tragedy for years, knowing George's importance to the show.
At this point, however, it has run out of time; it has no other choice but to prepare for the loss of the character, given where the spin-off is in the timeline. Unfortunately, that means that in-universe, Young Sheldon only has about a year to go before the inevitable demise of the Cooper patriarch.
The good news is George's death, if it happens on-screen, will not pan out until sometime later in Young Sheldon season 7. Sheldon's most heartbreaking The Big Bang Theory story about catching his dad cheating is confirmed not to happen in season 6. Since his cheating scandal precedes his death, it means that it's either CBS is saving the big tragedy in what potentially could be their final year.
Why George’s Death Impacts Missy The Most
The Cooper family dynamic has remained relatively the same throughout the six years of Young Sheldon. Since he's the eldest, Georgie no longer tends to ask for attention or explicit love from his parents. Meanwhile, Mary has always favored Sheldon — something that will continue over the years, as seen in their interactions in The Big Bang Theory.
This makes her tumultuous relationship with her only daughter more complicated, making her insecurity about feeling left out worse. Luckily for her, she has a special bond with George. Because of this, she will be the most affected among the siblings by his death.
Not much has been revealed about how Missy reacted to George's death. Losing her biggest supporter may be why she didn’t reach her full potential. Compared to her brothers, Georgie and Sheldon, she becomes the least successful Cooper sibling, as revealed in The Big Bang Theory. This is despite being smart, charming, and wise beyond her years on Young Sheldon.
What Big Bang Theory Reveals About Missy’s Future
Despite her limited involvement, with Missy only appearing twice on Big Bang Theory, CBS revealed enough pertinent details about the character to give viewers an idea of what her life has become.
In her final cameo during Amy and Sheldon's wedding in season 11, it was revealed that she was on the brink of separation from her husband while also carrying their second child. Subsequently, however, adult Sheldon's narration on Young Sheldon has established that ultimately, Missy found her happiness by getting re-married and having more kids. There is no word about her professional life, but at least she eventually gets her happy family. Perhaps, a new spin-off could tackle her story.
