"Sister Wives: Uncovering Kody's Insensitivity Towards Meri, Janelle, and Christine"

Sister Wives Kody Brown has proven that though he plays the doting husband, he's always been heartless with his ex-wives Christine, Janelle, & Meri.

SUMMARY

  •  Kody Brown's marriage to Robyn is based on love, while his relationships with his other wives have suffered. The difference is evident and heartbreaking for his original wives.
  •  Kody's lack of support and understanding towards Janelle's financial struggles reveals his heartless nature as a husband. He downplays her issues and offers no help.
  •  Christine's decision to leave Kody was a result of his mistreatment and mixed messages. His anger and betrayal after her departure were a result of his own actions.

Sister Wives Kody Brown has proven that though he calls Robyn Brown the love of his life, he’s heartless towards Meri Brown, Janelle Brown, and Christine Brown. After Kody and Robyn’s marriage in 2014 changed the trajectory of the Brown family, it became more obvious that Kody’s feelings for his other wives weren’t anywhere near as deep.

The manufactured type of relationships that Kody has had with Meri, Janelle, and Christine over the last decade weren’t reminiscent of the marriages he had with them before Robyn joined the family. After Kody fell in love with Robyn, things changed negatively in his other relationships.

Kody’s marriage to Robyn has been a look at the difference between a marriage of love and one of convenience. While Kody clearly had romantic feelings toward Meri, Janelle, and Christine, none of them compare to how he feels with Robyn.

It’s sad for Kody’s original wives to have to see him so happy with someone else, but at the same time, it’s clear he’s been withholding feelings and truth from the women he’s been married to for years. In understanding that Kody’s withheld his feelings, it’s easy to see how heartless he’s been with his original wives for years.

Montage of Sister WIves' Meri Brown at her bed and breakfast

In a recent episode of Sister Wives season 18, Kody shared that he would be redoing the barn on his and Robyn’s property. Meri, who had just shared with Kody that she was selling her house in Flagstaff, had explained that she was planning on moving her business to Utah.

Kody’s solution to Meri wanting to find a new place to live was to offer the soon-to-be renovated barn, which he called a “barndominimum”, up for Meri. While the gesture was kind in theory, the idea of Kody asking Meri to live in a barn while his other wife, Robyn, lives in a nearly $1 million home is cold.

Kody Brown Said That Janelle Had "Assets" (He's Downplaying Her Money Woes)

Throughout the early episodes of Sister Wives season 18, Janelle and Kody’s relationship took a tumultuous turn as their issues finally bubbled up to the surface, causing chaos in their marriage. Janelle, who has been open about the fact that her financial situation isn’t great, fought with Kody about their family’s holiday plans but it stemmed from a much larger issue of Kody’s nature as an absentee husband and father.

Kody, who’s been unsupportive of Janelle in the past, made the choice to downplay her financial issues despite Janelle’s genuine stress over her situation, explaining that she has “assets” she can dip into while providing no help to her.

Kody Brown's Angry At Christine For Leaving Him (He Had It Coming)

Christine’s choice to leave Kody was documented throughout Sister Wives season 17, but it was clear that she was contemplating making a move away from the patriarch of the Brown family for years beforehand. Kody’s actions toward Christine, especially before she decided to leave, have been difficult for Sister Wives viewers to watch.

 Throughout their marriage, Kody
strung Christine’s jealousy toward Robyn and made it clear that he felt she was less than his other wives. Still, he would vie for Christine’s affections whenever he could, sending some confusing messages to his wife. Rather than dealing with his mixed messages, Christine decided to choose her independence.

When Christine told Kody she was leaving, his initial reaction was disbelief. He refused to see that his life with Christine had been a struggle for her, or that she didn’t want to live inside their marriage anymore.

While Christine took Kody’s reaction in stride, it was clear she wasn’t happy that he didn’t respect her decision. Kody’s anger about Christine’s decision to leave was palpable in his relationships, and he took his feelings out on everyone regardless of whether they had a hand in Christine’s life. Sadly for Kody, Christine’s betrayal was on him for treating her poorly throughout their relationship.

Kody Brown Yelled At Janelle Before Fleeing Her Apartment

During Sister Wives season 18 episode 3, Kody and Janelle got into an argument that would become a defining moment in their relationship. Arguing over their holiday plans, Janelle and Kody’s argument reached a peak as she cursed at him and tried to get him to hear her out.

Kody couldn’t handle the way Janelle was speaking and took offense to the fact that she raised her voice, so he stormed out of the apartment after yelling back at her, slamming her door as she tried to continue the conversation.

He Never Forgave Meri For The Catfishing Scandal

In 2015, it was revealed that Meri had been carrying on an emotional affair with someone she’d met online, who she thought was a man named Sam. It was uncovered that Meri had actually been keeping up with a woman pretending to be an affluent businessman, and their affair had crossed over into something more serious.

Meri had trashed Kody in her messages, trying to contemplate ways to leave him and accompanying the messages with hypersexual photos. When the scandal was exposed, Meri was embarrassed and tried to apologize to Kody. Though he appeared to forgive her in the moment, he never got over or forgave her for the indiscretion.

Kody Brown Wouldn't Sleep With Meri, Christine, Or Janelle

Although Kody was involved in marriages with Meri, Janelle, and Christine, he refused to get physical with them in recent years. While it’s unclear what’s happening intimately between Kody and Robyn, Kody’s physical relationships with his other wives fell to the wayside after he stopped putting effort into his marriages.

Kody’s behavior with Meri, Janelle, and Christine was markedly different than it was with Robyn, and the fact that he refused to engage with them physically was a huge shift in his relationships.

Kody Brown's Plural Monogamy Chatter Was Used To Brainwash Janelle

While Kody has always been invested in plural marriage, when things started changing in his relationships he began discussing plural monogamy. Kody explained that he knew Janelle wasn’t interested in rekindling her relationships with Robyn or Meri, but made it clear that there was another option.

Kody introduced the idea of “plural monogamy”, which is essentially plural marriage without the combining of families, and acted like it’s anything different than what he’s been doing with his wives for ages. While Kody was acting like he was trying to present another option, what he was really doing was trying to manipulate Janelle into staying in a situation that didn’t serve her.

Kody Promised Robyn Monogamy and then Said He Wanted To Reconcile With Janelle

While Robyn originally didn’t seem interested in monogamy and instead wanted to keep the plural family together, once Kody’s wives started leaving she began to sing a different tune. Robyn shared that she actually did want to be monogamous with her husband, who had been chasing that answer for months.

While Kody and Robyn have both admitted they want to be monogamous, Kody took painstaking steps to reconcile with Janelle, sharing that he wanted to be with her again on Sister Wives. Kody isn’t keeping his word to anyone, but his heartless behavior shows his true colors.
