Co-Creator of When Calls the Heart Hints at Lori Loughlin's Potential Comeback to the Show

Hallmark’s WHEN CALL’S THE HEART co-creator Brian Bird recently said that “there are good conversations happening” about the possibility of actress Lori Loughlin’s return to the show.

On the “Heart to Hearties” podcast, Bird told the host, “Well, this is a tricky question, and what I can say is that there are good conversations happening…We can’t guarantee anything, but there are good conversations happening around this topic.”

“Our attitude always has been, you know, as the producing team around the writing team around WHEN CALL’S THE HEART that what better place for second chances than Hope Valley,” he continued. “And so in theory, it should work, right? But again, can’t fully promise it but we’re working on it.”

However, Hallmark says differently.

The channel officially told PEOPLE, “Hallmark Media is not in talks with Lori Loughlin about reprising her role as Abigail on WHEN CALL’S THE HEART.”

In 2019, Loughlin and her husband illegally paid $500,000 to the University of Southern California for the admission of their two daughters. They served prison time, and due to the scandal, Loughlin’s character, Abigail, was removed from WHEN CALLS THE HEART.

In September 2021, Hallmark told Showbiz Cheat Sheet, “Hallmark Channel has not cast Lori Loughlin in any current projects, including WHEN CALL’S THE HEART, nor do we have any plans to cast her in the future.” “Hallmark Channel isn’t working with Lori now — or ever,” Good Housekeeping wrote at the time.

Movieguide® previously reported Bird’s hopes for Loughlin’s return: “I personally would love nothing more than that happening in the Hope Valley. Whether or not we can do it is another question,” Bird said of Laoghlin returning to WHEN CALLS THE HEART.

“There’s a lot of moving parts to it, there’s a lot of other stakeholders besides me who would have to say yes to that. And so I can’t say with certainty that we can pull that off. I hope we can. If anyone should return to Hope Valley, it would be Abigail, in my opinion. That’s the kind of show we are.”

Loughlin’s former castmate, Erin Krakow, also said she would like Loughlin back on the show. She said, “I love Lori and would be so happy to see her back in Hope Valley sooner than later. She’s obviously always in my heart, so that would bring me a lot of joy.”
