‘Outer Banks’ Season 4 Cast, Release Date and Everything to Know

Netflix’s teen adventure series Outer Banks has become one of the streaming service’s staples, and for good reason.

There’s something about watching the gang of Pogues go on all their treasure-hunting adventures that makes us want to put on a puka shell necklace and join them.  After a triumphant end to their quest for El Dorado and an overall resolution, the show’s storyline feels like it could’ve come to an end with Season 3, but lucky for us, OBX has been renewed for a fourth season. Once a Pogue, always a Pogue.

Outer Banks Season 4 release date

TLDR: There’s no official release date, but fans are hoping for a 2024 premiere. THE DETAILS: According to What's on Netflix, Outer Banks Season 4 began filming in June 2023 and shot for a month until shutting down due to the actors' strike. Production can restart after the actors union SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP studio group agree to a new deal, whenever that may be. All that being said, we might still be able to expect Season 4 sometime in 2024. Season 3 dropped on Feb. 23 2023, with Season 2 on July 31, 2021, and Season 1 on April 15, 2020.

  • ‘One Piece’ Season 2: Cast, Release Date and Everything to Know

TLDR: All your favorite Pogues will be returning to OBX for Season 4, with the exception of a few characters who were killed off last season.

THE DETAILS: John B. (Chase Stokes), Sarah (Madelyn Cline), and the rest of the gang are heading back to the shores of North Carolina for the newest season. The actors who play the two main Kooks, Drew Starkey (Rafe Cameron) and Austin North (Topper) were on the stage during the Poguelandia event in February for the Season 4 announcement, so it’s safe to assume we’ll be seeing them again as well.

Characters who will not be returning (as far as we know) include Big John and Ward Cameron, who both met their deaths in the Season 3 finale.  While no new actor names have been announced so far, we can count on some new characters and villains popping up in Season 4.

Main cast list

  • Chase Stokes as John B., who started the original treasure hunt.
  • Madelyn Cline as Sarah Cameron, John B.’s Kook-turned-Pogue girlfriend.
  • Rudy Pankow as the wildcard JJ.
  • Madison Bailey as Kiara, a core member of the group and Pogue by choice.
  • Jonathan Daviss as Pope, the gangs’ sensible voice of reason.
  • Carlacia Grant as Cleo, a former Bahamas ship crew member who joined the Pogues.
  • Drew Starkey as Rafe Cameron, Sarah’s brother and enemy of the Pogues.
  • Austin North as Topper, the “King of the Kooks” and Sarah’s ex-boyfriend.

TLDR: The new season will pick up 18 months after the events in Season 3, with the crew setting off on a new adventure hunting Blackbeard’s treasure. THE DETAILS: Knowing the Pogues, they couldn’t be left without a treasure to hunt. The next adventure in store for the friend group was revealed at the end of Season 3, with a mystery man bringing the team a manuscript belonging to Edward Teach, aka the infamous pirate Blackbeard. The legendary buccaneer has a deep history with North Carolina making it the perfect quest for the next season.

The show’s executive producers have hinted at Season 4 being a fresh start for the series. Executive Producer Josh Pate called the first three seasons a trilogy, with a new trilogy beginning in Season 4. The upcoming installment will feature “new villains, a new treasure hunt, a new life situation.” We got a glimpse of that in the final moments of Season 4, with the crew out of high school and on to post-graduation ventures.

Last spring, Pate said they were still “tinkering” with the exact storyline. “One thing that’s already been mapped out, however, is the series’ ultimate ending. That’s one key piece that all three writers are on the same page about,” he said. “We’ve always known from the beginning what the last scene would be, if we would be lucky enough to get it that far.”
